Areas of Focus: 1-VERY concerned about our reserve fuel. Our ARINC format was incorrect, even though we landed with WAY more fuel than the calculated reserves they still hit us on that. The resolution was to add 45 minutes to the additional 20 minutes we had in our flight plan-and adjust our flight plan format as such. 2-The alternate we filed to was what we thought was a joint-use field, in fact it was a Spanish military base, which you are not allowed to use as an alternate. So we got hit for that. 3-Lastly they hit us for a wire clamp on the Left main gear that was only (very) slightly loose. In fact, you really had to wiggle it to get it to move, but nonetheless they wrote us up for that as well.

Helpful Tools/Tactics: Smile! Be accommodating. We invited all 4 folks (1 Maintenance, 1 Operations inspectors both with trainees) onto the jet and offered them seats. We handed them our SAFA binder which had line by line items with associated color photos of our compliance. They loved our binder and took multiple photos of it with their phones.

Comments/Recommendations: Be friendly and accommodating. Develop a SAFA binder in your organization so ensure compliance, this gives you the ‘warm & fuzzy’ when they show up, because you know you have your “stuff” together, and more importantly it gives the inspectors a sense of confidence that your organization is ‘wired tight.’.
